With low temperatures and a sharp drop in humidity levels in the air, cold weather can quickly take a toll on your skin, making it dry, flaky and sometimes itchy. This is why applying an ultra-hydrating moisturizer is a must during winter—and not just on your face but on the rest of the body too, especially your limbs.

If you’re looking for a heavy-duty body moisturizer that can stand up to the drying winter weather, look no further than nourishing body oils. They are intensely hydrating, smell sumptuous and give your skin a radiant sheen in a jiffy. What’s not to like? Plus, with so many lightweight, non-greasy options available in the market today, you no longer have to worry about clogged pores or ruined clothes either.

“Applying a body oil in the colder months is especially beneficial as it provides long-lasting hydration to the skin that helps tackle dryness caused by cold temperatures, low humidity and increased use of heaters,” tells Dr. Naissan Wesley, LA-based aesthetic and surgical dermatologist.

When choosing a body oil, look for one that contains oils that are high in linoleic acid (a type of omega-6 fatty acid), suggests Dr. Wesley. “Linoleic acid is a major building block of the skin barrier. I look for body oils that contain a blend of cold-pressed oils with high linoleic acid levels such as grape seed oil, sesame seed oil, sunflower seed oil and borage seed oil,” tells the skincare expert.

If you’ve oily or acne-prone skin, avoid using oil products that contain comedogenic ingredients (such as avocado oil, carrot seed oil, coconut oil, marula oil, etc.) as they have a tendency to clog pores and cause breakouts, suggests Dr. Wesley. Instead, look for body oils that are formulated with non-comedogenic ingredients such as olive oil, argan oil, Brazilian nut oil, grapefruit oil, jojoba oil and grape seed oil.

And now, if you’re ready to experience the hydrating goodness of luscious body oils, here are some of the best ones that will keep your skin soft, supple and radiant throughout the winter:
