Seasonal woes could harm your skin in a big way , so, removing toxins from your skin becomes one of the most essential skincare routines.

Dermatologist Dr Apratim Goel, says, “We all need regular skin detox and there are many ways to do it including steam baths, using natural products, dry skin brushing and colonic washout to name a few. However, make sure that you consult a dermatologist/skincare specialist before you indulge in all this.”

USE NATURAL PRODUCTS

The most important step towards detoxifying your skin is to adapt a regular skincare and cleansing routine. The use of skin care products that are full of synthetic chemicals is not good.”These chemicals can be absorbed into the circulatory system and it could provide more toxins inside the body . Most people would not feel the ill effects of these chemical additives instantly as the liver is able to metabolise and detoxify them, most of the time,” says Dr Goel. Try and use products which are made of natural ingredients.

CLEANSING AND MOISTURISING COULD DELAY SIGNS OF AGING TOO

Cleansing when done on a regular basis is anti-aging because it reduces ree radicals that cause aging, say experts. Cosmetologist Dr Jamuna Pai says, “Protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, every few hours, on a daily basis and also remembering to hydrate your skin with a nourishing moisturiser is an impor ant step that can delay the signs of aging and keep your skin free from damaging toxins.”

DRY SKIN BRUSHING

The skin’s ability to detox is severely compromised when skin pores become clogged with toxins in the air, in cosmetics and beauty products, or from he food we eat. By spending a few min utes each day to dry brush your skin, you can renew your skin’s ability to eliminate toxins from your body . To enable the skin to release more toxins from your body , use a loofah sponge or dry skin brush. Dry brushing is done prior to bath and exfoliation using loofah can be done while bathing. When you dry brush your skin, you are removing oils and dead skin cells which plug the pores. Dr Goel says, “After dry brushing, white blood cells would also migrate into the skin, enhanc ing the immune system functions. Exfoliation creates a radiant and vibrant skin. It is also is good for circulation, strengthening the immune system, toning the muscles, reducing cellulite and improving digestion.”

COLONIC WASHOUT

A monthly treatment of colonic enema is often strongly recommended to remove toxins that have accumulated in the body . But this should be done under medical supervision as it can have side effects too. Opt for a steam bath To help your skin to detoxify, sauna bath and steam is one nice option. It can really help your skin to work in a natural way and remove the unwanted substances along with body sweat as well as through kidney.

RISKS AND LIMITATIONS OF SKIN DETOXIFICATION
Take extra caution if you are pregnant, suffering from blood pressure problems, thyroid problems, heart ailments or diabetes, advises Dr Goel. She adds, “Too often we all come across promotions for expensive, complicated detox products that promise to make us healthier.Although some of these techniques are useful, it’s difficult to know what will work for whom. It is always better to do intense detox programs as well as follow the detox diet under medical supervision.”

Having vegetable and fruit juices that have some amount of fibre in them is a great tool to aid the detoxification and cleansing process of your skin. Mediation and yoga is another important part of it.Alternate with yoga and exercises like brisk walking, swimming every other day for at least 3040 minutes in one day. Says Aesthetician Ritu Kumar Tanwar, “Scrubbing your face and body with a mild scrub, every other day can really help to get rid of the dead skin cells.Use face masks that are ideal for your skin in order to get a glowing, detoxed skin.”
